Darker Days ahead, moving Wirds, flying Burritos, the Sun, the Sun, rising and hiding behind closed doors. Perception tries to escape but love is stronger. always stronger and growing. bright light on fright night. halloween. hollyweird. it was the sailor himself who brought it up, the sailoer himself who tasted the taste of waste and junk, loss and fear. no none was left to do the job, so he started a new business and moved forward. still the sun was hiding behind closed doors, but this time it was real.

Howe Gelb & A Band of Gypsies (2011)

You wouldn´t expect a Band of Gypsies alongside an American Singer from Tucson, Arizona, would you? Well, sometimes this Kind of strange Collaboration works out pretty fine, sometimes it fails, and sometimes it works perfect! Wich definately is the case here. A brilliant Album with a very unique Sound that catches you very soon. Howe Gelb has released about 50 (!) Albums since 1985, alone and with several Sideprojects, for Example the well known Band Giant Sand. All Albums are released on Owom Records. About his Music-Philosophy he says: 'I just liked the idea of having this kind of removed world, this brotherhood—the idea of a band being something more than a front person or dealing with the throes of fame."

His Voice and singing sounds often like a "Talkin-Blues" and reminds me a little bit on Lou Reed ...

ADRIAN YOUNGE AND THE
THE BLACK DYNAMITE ORCHESTRA

Adrian Younge started as Hip-Hop Producer in the late 90´s. But the MPC alone wasn´t enough,so he taught himself to playin various instruments and learned to translate the melodies of his mind into the instruments. His Music is influenced by Italian Composers like Nino Nardini, Ennio Morricone, to name a few, and the Producers of the golden era of blaxploitation soundtracks, like Don Julian, Nico Fidenco, Lalo Schifrin...and so on. It has a psychedelic groove, for Example listen to "1969 Organ" wich sounds a bit like a lo-fi garage band track or early tracks of the doors. He still works as movie-editor and says that he has "Movies" in Mind while producing. Being an editor myself, i understand what he is talking about. Images are always strongly related to sounds.

My collaboration with the sax-player is movin on, we practiced and it really worked out fine. It was (and surely will be) a great experience for me to listen to our connected sounds.

We do need time to develop our set and to do the "fine-tuning", but everything goes it´s way to hit the target soon.

Funker und Bruchpilot - More & Less Room

Cologne´s "Funker & Bruchpilot"

Im looking forward to a new Collaboration (DJ & Musician) with an ambitioned professionel Saxophone Player from Cologne. Me on the Turntables, him on the Sax, we´re gonna play a combination of Deep Vibes from Jazz, Soul and Instrumental Funk, to some fresh and soulful Future Beatz. Live! We´re tryin go get the beatiful "Boogaloo" Bar as Location now. I´ll keep you informed about upcomig Dates.

The Day we met first we talked a lot about how much "room" he needs to give his Saxophone the right Effect within the Music i play on the Turntables. That inspired me to do this little Mix and to give it the this Name. I really like it, in the beginning it´s very jazzy, later it get´s more and more uplifting and ernergizing. Enjoy it!

Leaving Earth far behind with Brooklyn´s Shigeto. The Album "Full Circle" was released on Ghostly International at the end of last Year. One of my favorite Beat-Producers at the moment, producing very organic sounding jazz influenced Beats with warm atmospheric Sound-Layers that remind me a bit on late 70´s avantgarde Jazz-Fusion. A weird and beautiful Blend! Just the right Kind of Music for ILWAB. Light up the Darkness.

Crazy Communists - Bulgarian Barbarian

Met him in my student times in the rainy mountains of switzerland, the hot coast of italy, the dirty spooky catacombs of paris and the smoked out couches of cologne. When you meet him, spend time with him, you maybe come to the point where you could start thinking he is crazy, but in the end you realize, he is full of energy. He was always looking for pictures, he was CRAZY about pictures (i guess he obviously still is). When we were travelling, he and the other "bulgarian barbarians" as we named them kindly, made ME crazy because i experienced them like an unstructured floating through space and time. Today i remember those "barbarian"-encounters as very inspirative days!!! I only hear about Nicola "Das Huhn" through news about his recent photo-works and i´m always happy to see that he goes his way as a photographer. In his pictures i see the inspiration again.

In Love with Turkey No.1

This Songs, espacially the first one, are dedicated to my highly appreciated Friend Galip. Reminiscing the Days when we were sitting in this small Puma-Cage called "Edit-Suite", during last Winter. While editing Images from Istanbul, we talked about Life, Love and Music (as always...;-) to warm ourselves a little bit. (Cologne Winters are cold, dark and looong!) He told me a lot about Turkey and "his" Istanbul, were he grew up in the 60´s.

We discovered this lovely Song "Cemberinde Gül Oya"(Rose Lace in My Scarf), and i directly fell in Love with it. Listening to the Song, Galip remembered himself as a Young Man walking throug the Streets of Istanbul. We used it for a Collage of Istanbul-Images in the Documentary about the Istanbul based Writer Orhan Pamuk, we were working on back then.

Dun Bugun Yarin Orkestra- "Havada Bulut Yo"

The second Song, "Havada Bulut Yok", we used for a Scene in Orhan Pamuks "Museum of Innocence" in Istanbul, a Magic Place were you definately have to go if you visit the City one Day. Sadly both Songs coudn´t make it into the Final Edit of the Documentary, because we had a Composer doin the whole Score, but i still can´t imagine better Songs for the Istanbul-Scenes.

Talking and dreaming about Istanbul...Turkey, Land of the Brave. Cologne loves you!
